At Micron LTD, our mission is to empower businesses with reliable and innovative telecommunications solutions. We strive to be the leading provider of telecommunication services for businesses of all sizes, delivering on our promise of superior customer service and support.
Micron LTD have partnered with many Blue chip clients. We are vastly experienced and knowledgeable in the telecoms industry, and specifically within optical fibre.
We worked many years Installing conventional cable for business connects, working in live joints (including Outages on the LDN, for some very high profile clients). This work entailed, install conventional cable through Kingston Communications ducted network using a winch and by hand, terminating in KCOM exchanges, at customer’s premises and in live joints under constant monitoring and Internal/external installations including containment.
This was the largest blown fibre job in Europe at the time and spanned the entire South Yorkshire Region. The Network was built out from BT Exchanges, to Street Furniture ready for distribution. All the BFT and blown fibre was installed by my team and terminated in the exchanges, joints and Street Cabinets under constant monitoring to the clients very high specification.
We carry out work and maintain optical networks for many universities and internet providers including Derby, Canterbury & Kent to name a few. One major dark fibre links we have completed works on was a link between Canterbury and Kent universities. After discussions with the client, we decided to utilise the spare fibres between joint locations around CCCU Campus to maximise the usage. This job was conventional cable and required testing to a very high standard including OTDR, ILM, PMD & CD testing, producing around 2,000 test results for the client.
As well as installing fibre for Northern Power Grid, Micron have also Project Managed large civils and power cable installs up to 10Km through built up areas and 11Kv to 132Kv cable installation, with all pulling tensions worked out before designing the route, so as not to exceed the cables maximum pulling recommendation. I was responsible for everything from Noticing, TM, materials, bridge crossings including design etc.
This installation involved diversion work to allow for the demolition of the old control block. Due to this site decommissioning we advised on a cost-effective optical fibre network. Although all standard termination equipment was used, the Network however was built to a high standard and tested Bi-directionally with OTDR and ILM. The results supplied to the client on completion and prior to commissioning. We also installed a new telephony system across the site both in and outside the reactor buildings.
Microns team were previously involved in the network installation on board a control centre, ready to be towed positioned at sea along the East coast near Lincoln. Also, involved with the control centre at Walpole, where we designed a stainless mounting card to be positioned within an existing chasey “with high praise from the client”. This was to house the media convertors and the fibre termination and needed to be removable for inspection. The biggest challenge on this installation was the cold weather, the fibre coating being very ridged and the connection to the subsea cables being positioned on the external fabric of the structure. We had to warm up the boxes with continuous warm air, to achieve our high standards in fibre presentation.
