End-to-End Fibre optic Infrastructure build

The vision: 

To provide ultra fast broadband connectivity to Hundreds of thousands of homes, businesses and public sector sites to the UK's most advanced network 

Micron Networks Ltd were engaged to provide an End-to-End Fibre optic Infrastructure build, this consisted of Micro duct installation, Blowing fibre from the FEX to every cabinet. Fusion Splicing (Ribbon and Singular) all fibres optic cables (Underground and Overhead) and testing every circuit providing detailed reports and qualification of circuit.

Every connection on CityFibre's network is powered by their own highly secure, climate-controlled micro-edge data center's. Each serves up to 60,000 premises as well as partner colocation requirements. Housing almost all the powered equipment together in these purpose-built environments helping minimise overall power use, while maximizing equipment lifecycles to keep waste to a minimum.

The CityFibre Architecture is different to many other clients we have provided services for, the build both local and national networks allow for resilience, with an East and West feed creating a “Ring” this allows for rerouted data traffic should damage occur in one area, reducing the “Downtime” for the customer. 

Other challenges introduced to the build centered around the use of PIA, as CF started to ramp up the build and introduced the use of PIA, we found that due to the State / Unknown states of this aging infrastructure this at times slowed the delivery. To get around this issue Micron set up a Test Rod Rope team to get ahead of the build, we surveyed the planned routes and fed our findings back to the client to give us maximum time to either consider new routes, or complete civils / Blockages to reduce any downtime. 

Micron Networks LTD have provided our Partner CityFibre with these services in 3 cities building 7 FEX’s. 

We are now currently working as a Tier 1 supplier to CityFibre providing Business installations, Interconnect links, Pole swap outs, Planned outages and PMD/CD testing services.
